Little Tuffys
(small but tough)
This is the smallest toughest dishcloth in town and... they are super fast to knit. The pattern is for a 6" x 6" dishcloth and a 5" x 5" dish scrubby. I have small little hands and the larger dishcloths get hard for me to handle once they are wet, where as these little cloths are just right. So I wanted to share them with you.
Materials :
1 ball Sugar' n cream or any cotton worsted yarn of your choice. This is also a good way to use up leftovers because they take very little yarn to make.
Size 10 1/2 US needles
Size K or J crochet hook ( if you want a little loop for hanging)
A darning needle to tuck in the ends
gauge: 18 sts = 6"
Directions for a 6" square dishcloth:
Remove yarn label and find the inside and outside ends of your yarn. (you can also use 2 different strands of yarn held together)
With 2 strands of yarn held together cast on 18 sts.
Row 1: K1, P1 across row
Row 2: P1, K1 across row
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until your cloth measures 6" or it is as long as it is wide.
Cast off all sts in moss sts pattern, but transfer the last loop to your crochet hook. Chain 7 or 8 sts depending on how large you want your loop to be and finish off. Tuck in ends. Ta da!!! This took me a little over 30 minutes to knit and finish. These little tuffys have perfect scrubbing power on non stick pans and coffee cups.

Cast on 16 sts using 2 strands of yarn held together
Use the directions for the 6"x 6" dishcloth omitting the loop for hanging.
Dirty pans beware..!!

I've made many of these but I hold one strand of Cotton & one strand on Tulle (Nylon Net). The Tulle is sold in the Wedding Decor aisle at Joann's. I buy it in the 6" width spool & cut it in half (with a hack saw) when I get home. So holding the cotton & a 3 inch wide tulle/yarn it makes it a TUFF/Scrubber. And, you're right, they are just right for little hands.
Thank you Anonymous! Buying tulle in precut spools - I didn't even think of it (let alone realize it was sold that way). I was buying yardage and cutting it, what a pain in the @$$ that was. I will try my project again!

i go to dollar store and get the tulle whole roll $1 only have white or off white but it work's. also u can make it into strips and only use part of roll knitted in at same time. i use razor blade and cut it to cardboard 2" wide strips Liz nice pattern off to try it my way thx

Just found your pattern this week + have made 3 so far... Love them! I WAS making the old fashion kind of dishcloth (knit corner to corner). Those took me hours to make... While I couldn't knit your pattern in 30 minutes (minetake an hour or 80 minutes), they are significantly faster... Plus! Better looking + undoubtedly tougher...

Love, love, love these! I've made many for myself, my mom, my 2 daughters and my daughter-in-law. We all love them so much. I'm also making them now with the Tulle for scrubbers. Thanks for the pattern.
I make these with Mary Maxim's "Scrub-It" yarn and they make good scrubbers without having to mess with the tulle.
