In tHe piNk

I pulled the wheel out again a couple days ago.. I have a small stash of fleece that I would like to spin up to make room for new more exciting things.. I spun and plied one skein.. and spun one spool so I could ply that with what was left on a spool from a while ago.. and I ended up with a nice little group of coordinating skeins..

The skein all the way to right was spun about a year ago.. and just sitting all by itself.. now it has some friends.. there is a bit of over spin on both .. for some reason every time I use my louet I get over spin.. I'm not used to the wheel yet I suppose.. maybe because I have used the same ashford wheel since I started spinning... but I still love the louet and enjoy using it.. and will be spinning away on it again this week..I have a lot of time on my hands lately.. they have cut hours at my job.. I'm almost unemployed.. so..I'll be dusting off the resume and hitting the pavement so to speak ... I guess these days it doesn't matter how good of a worker you are.. if they feel they are paying you more than they could pay someone just hired.. hey.. its faze out time.. It would be nice to have a job where good workers are appreciated...I'm hoping to find one.. very soon!!(^_^)

noooo not the PJ try on!!!

Yes .. here it is .. the PJ try on... this was looking really small on the needles.. and just to assure myself that it will indeed fit when the knitting is done....relief.. yes it fits...and there is even a little more room for stretch left.. I'm knitting this with cascade fixation ... which is 98.3% cotton and 1.7% elastic.. let me tell you.. it sure is stretchy.. and I think perfect for a tank top.. (^_^)

'vog on

Remember this.... swimming pool blue handspun..aprox. 308 yards..

I had been searching around for a nice sock pattern to knit with this yarn and I saw 'vog on from the knitty summer 2007.. I'm sure by now you have guessed that I love short little socks... any way I thought this pattern perfect.. my handspun yarn is knitting up really soft.. I tried to put as much extra spin on the yarn for more durability but it's still a little softer than it should be I think. This pattern is great by the way.. I actually can knit this lace without markers or without having to look at the pattern.. for me that's a first.. and if I can do this .. I'm sure even the most novice knitter will be able to knit these.. the pattern gives directions for both the leg down and toe up versions... I just have to decide whether or not to do the picot edging or just a rib.. (^_^)

various projects..

I wanted to either make more booties or a rattle of sorts.. to complete my baby gift.. I opted for the rattle since it's hot in Florida and booties probably wont get much use.. The pattern is from crochet today.. the may/june issue and it's called tiny teddies... I used the left over silk from the booties for the ears, arms and legs.. and filled a small plastic egg with a few beads and stuffed it in the head so it would rattle...

I've been hunting around for a shawl pin lately and they are terribly expensive... so I decided to make my own.. and I like it.. I'm actually making a few and will be selling these and the stitch markers below on etsy.. now that I finished all that... back to my geisha socks.. I'm on the toes now.. and hope to finish these by tonight some time and cast on my project in waiting.. (^-^)

you snake in the grass!!!

Living in florida has it's ups and downs.. lots of sun.. when it's sunny.. it's very sunny here...we get lots of rain in rainy season and when we have a rain storm...well... it rains in torrents... I live right next to a small reserve which gives us some privacy... the bad part about that is there are rats in the reserve and then the snake that controls the rats.. looks like he is eating very well... this dude has to be around 4-5 feet long.. we didn't get close enough to measure.. and the camera was shaking and my bf said we had to tip toe or it would feel our vibrations and run away..I couldn't see in my camera because the sun was so bright.. and hence the bad pictures...anyway you can click on the picture for a larger view.. the end..(^_^)

no knitting!!

No knitting has been finished.. but I have been spinning a little here and there. I finished one skein of the pink/gray fleece. It has a little bit of mohair in it and ended up being very light and airy.. what I didn't like about it .... it's so similar to the yarn that I used to knit the shawl in the picture.. and i was thinking of using it for the swallowtail shawl.. but now I'm not sure.. the one skein has 290 yards and the ball of fleece is still very big.. so I think I will continue spinning this for the summer and see how many yards I can get out of it before I decide what I will use it for.. well off to work for me.. I hope that KIP was a success and all had fun.. I was there in spirit.. (^_^)...[I made myself a shawl pin and will be selling more of the same on in the very near future.. very near]

I've had this big puffy ball of roving for quit awhile...I had bid on 2 different colors on ebay and this was the color that was my second choice.. I didn't win the color I really wanted and so put this aside.. I also had to finish spinning a skein of sock yarn first... there was such a little bit left to do.. I finally got around to doing this the other day and was happy when I ended up with 300 yards..!!!.. that would be the swimming pool blue skein below..

Some times when I spin this kind of roving I separate the strips of color.. but I didn't like the effect..It sort of had the muted candy cane look.. so I'm teasing it pretty thin right from the ball and trying to blend it as much as possible and I like it more.. I'm thinking now that if I get enough yardage out of this roving... someday... I might want to try making the swallowtail shawl with it..... well it's nice to have dreams.. hehehe

Swimming pool blue.. 300 yards.. and yay.. finally finished..!!

sAd fACe...

Well.. I'm not happy with the swallowtail shawl.. maybe I should have used one size smaller needles with this yarn..but the more I knit ... the more I don't like how it looks.. so goodbye swallowtail.. I will either start it over with a smaller needle or different yarn.. not sure yet...but for now it's a frogging we will go and I going to put the yarn to the side for now... I'm working on some other projects .. no knitting... I think I'm in a knitting slump.. I don't like any of the projects I start.. with the exception of a few.. maybe it's the hot weather.. anyway.. I'm still knitting my flip flop socks and probably another perdita for now.. (^_^)

the caST on

The cast on... I don't know why.. but... some how I casted on 3 projects the other day... I had finished my flip flop socks and another perdita and didn't have a project to work on.. so..
project #1.. another pair of flip flop socks ( for me!!)
project #2.. the Swallotail shawl..
project#3... is the Muir shawl from really to show.. I just casted on the stitches and that was it)
I really don't know how much I will knit on the shawls and which one I will end up working on.. probably the Swallowtail shawl first.. then maybe after that I'll work on the Muir.. or who know's maybe I'll work on both at the same time!!!
For this pair of flip flop socks I'm using Sock it to me collection from This yarn was given to me a while ago..

For the Swallowtail shawl I'm usingJagger spun Zephyr silk/wool in color white.. ( why did I pick white... I'm still not sure...)

And here is my one finished project.. another perdita.. I used larger beads this time and I like it better.. you had to look really close to see the smaller beads.. this time it looks more like lily of the valley flowers...

I want to say thank you to everyone who looks at my blog and those of you that comment.. thank you. I look at a lot of blogs myself and don't always leave a comment.. if you have commented I always take a minute to look at your blog and peak at what you are working on also..(^_^)
